Date: January 2014 – Feb. 2015
Client: University of Canterbury
Engineer: Holmes Consulting Group
Main Contractor: Hawkins Construction Ltd
In 1995, approval was granted to build a new five storey Civil/Mechanical building at the University of Canterbury’s Ilam campus, off Creyke Road. The building was to accommodate staff and postgraduate students, along with a variety of laboratories. It was completed and occupied in 1997.
The building did not suffer any major damage as a consequence of the 2010-2011 earthquakes. The extent of the damage was limited to cracking of concrete elements and damage to steel connections.
BBR Contech were engaged by Hawkins Construction to crack map and epoxy inject all the concrete elements internally and externally. The crack injection involved injecting the topping slab on each floor and many fair faced concrete elements. We also carried out concrete repairs, waterproofing polyurethane injection and sealant repairs.
