Cost-effective concrete repairs with sprayed concrete

Contech is skilled in using dry and wet mix sprayed concrete to fix and strengthen damaged concrete structures. Spray concrete repair work is ideal for wharf structures, tunnel linings, retention of excavations and slope stabilisation. It is also highly economical compared to alternatives.

Sprayed concrete is incredibly versatile because of the application method, with application in-situ (and no formwork required). This means we can apply it to curved or other unusually-shaped structures.

Spray concrete has many advantages over formed poured concrete for repairing an existing structure:

  • compaction and consolidation takes place at the same time as application
  • it adheres to the surface better than standard concrete
  • mixing with other elements can improve strength, toughness, and ductility
  • lower permeability and reduced shrinkage
  • generally less expensive than conventional concrete

Spray concrete, enhanced

Sprayed concrete, also known as gunite or shotcrete, has been a reliable choice in construction and repair for decades. It offers a cost effective alternative to traditional concreting methods.

Adding polymer fillers, silica fume, set accelerators, and steel fibres can greatly enhance the properties of traditional liquid concrete for spraying.

Polymer Modifiers

By introducing polymer modifiers into the mix, we enhance the adhesion, flexibility, and durability of the sprayed concrete. This means it can better withstand the stresses and strains of the surrounding environment.

Silica Fume

Silica fume, a byproduct of silicon metal production, adds strength and reduces permeability in the concrete. It’s particularly effective in improving the resistance of sprayed concrete to chemical attacks and abrasion.

Set Accelerators

Set accelerators speed up the setting time of the sprayed concrete. This proves particularly beneficial in projects that require rapid construction or repair.

Polypropylene and Steel Fibres

These fibres reinforce the concrete, significantly improving its tensile strength and resistance to cracking. This reinforcement is especially crucial in structural repairs and strengthening.
