Continued pressure within the vibrant milk powder export market has invigorated independent milk company, Synlait Milk, to increase production and upsize its Dunsandel facilities to meet demands.
Main Contractor, Calder Stewart Industries Ltd secured the contract to build the new dry store storage facility and once again renewed its partnership with specialist sub-contractor BBR Contech to design and construct the required high performing post tensioned dry store and ELA transition slabs.
Design load considerations established the dry store slab thickness at 150mm. Opting for a 5 pour construction sequence and utilising our BBR CF405 tendons and proprietary couplers system, the entire 22,800 square metre post tensioned area was completed without a single opening construction joint.
Additionally, two individual ELA transitional slabs were required to accommodate larger vehicle axle loads. A total of 4,800 square metres of heady duty slab was constructed at 230mm thick using BBR CF506 tendons.
In total, 30km of flat post tensioning duct and 111 metric tonnes of tensioning strand was used in the construction of these superior floor slabs.
