With an existing Mitre 10 Mega Hornby site covering 6,000m² requiring more space due to an expanding range, the development of a new store over a site area of 11,000m² adjacent to the old store was planned before the Canterbury earthquakes. With its larger trade and supplies centre, it is well positioned to support the rebuild.
The retail hall over 6,400m² includes a post-tensioned floor slab 150mm thick and was poured over two consecutive days with a central joint in permanent compression.
The PT floor is designed for 15kN racking grout post loads and 2.95kN earthquake loads.
