BBR CONNÆCT Magazine 2023

The 2023 edition of BBR Network’s Connaect magazine has been published, showcasing projects and technology from around the BBR Network. 

This years magazine showcases the use of World Class Technologies and Performance from across the globe. It also includes an article profiling the 60th anniversary of Contech here in NZ.  

A summary of the articles relevant to NZ readers is outlined below. 

TALKING BBR  

Climate for championing change.  BBR VT International CEO Juan Maier outlines how BBR Network services and technology can promote a carbon efficient approach to construction and also to repurposing or prolonging the life of an existing structure. p6-7  

Wave for change.  BBR Contech continues to support development of emerging engineers by providing summer holiday practical work experience for civil engineering interns at the Princes Wharf concrete repair project. p9   

IN THE SPOTLIGHT  

60th Anniversary of BBR Contech.  A special feature that looks at the people whose breadth of vision has shaped the business and those who continue to steer and strengthen it through their commitment to innovation and excellence. p14-17  

BUILDINGS  

Double in Dunedin.  Two suspended PT slab on grade warehouse projects are featured.  A 2,700m2 retail and storage warehouse for PlaceMakers Dunedin and two 4,000m2 storage warehouses for Tuapeka Print. p40-41  

SPECIAL APPLICATIONS  

Sitting lightly on the land.  Pres-Lam technology is featured in three recent buildings incorporating post-tensioned timber. Ashburton Library and Civic Centre, Auckland University of Technology and AgResearch Lincoln Campus.  p58-59  

Testing of dam anchors.  We profile the lift-off testing of ground anchors installed to strengthen the Waitakere Dam in 1991. Tested at 5-year intervals, the 2022 programme confirms the anchors’ performance and condition continues to be excellent. p60-61  

MRR  

Rooftop record. Seismic strengthening of the Foodstuffs Newtown New World supermarket with 4,400m2 of carbon fibre – one of our biggest FRP projects undertaken. p76-77  

Highest ever award for sustainability.  Refurbishment and adaptive reuse of University of Auckland’s 45-year old Social Services Building using FRP strengthening. p78-79   

TECHNOLOGY  

Decade of development.  The BBR post-tensioning, stay cable and geotechnical solutions hold a leading position in the marketplace.  The last 10 years is summarised and showcases major introductions into the range and some ‘world first’ achievements. p86-91
