BBR CONNÆCT Magazine 2022

The 2022 edition of BBR Network’s Connaect magazine has been published highlighting how the engineering profession and construction industry can contribute to the achievement of global carbon reduction targets. 

The magazine has a profile of some of the most exciting and innovative projects from around the BBR Network as well as profiling the new technology developed by BBR related to the CONA CMG strand and bar ground anchor system. 

A summary of the articles relevant to NZ readers is outlined below. 

TALKING BBR  

Towards Carbon Zero.  BBR VT International CEO Juan Maier shares his thoughts about how the construction industry, and specifically the BBR Network, can provide sustainable solutions based on innovative technology and latest techniques. p6-8  

BBR Contech sponsored the Concrete NZ seminar series entitled Prestressed Concrete 101 with seminars held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. p10   

Lifetime of achievement award for Jeff Marchant.  The rank of BBR PT Grand Master was conferred upon BBR Contech’s Jeff Marchant. This prestigious BBR Network award recognizes sustained and valuable contributions over a long period of time. p14-15   

BUILDINGS  

Three million milestone.  BBR Contech celebrates the completion of 3,000,000m2 of post-tensioned slabs. The article covers the evolution of PT slabs in NZ and highlights some notable projects and other achievements on the way to this milestone. p38-41  

Countdown Distribution Centres – leading edge BBR slab construction technology.  Features the Countdown Wiri fresh-produce distribution centre (14,000m2) and the Countdown Palmerston North distribution centre (40,000m2). p48-49  

MRR  

Art at the heart.  Seismic strengthening of the Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua, Whanganui. Restoration and strengthening using vertical post-tensioning through double-brick cavity walls. p72-75  

Smoothing the way for commerce. Strengthening of Waioeka Gorge bridges in the Bay of Plenty.  FRP utilised to upgrade bridge decks on six Waka Kotahi highway bridges. p78-79

Insights and techniques.  Reducing embodied carbon while creating significant value for all stakeholders.  Discusses a range of solutions and examines the benefits of post-tensioning, including selected international case studies. p88-93
