Client: Christchurch City Council/Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority
Engineer: SCIRT
Main Contractor: McConnell Dowell Constructors Ltd
The Armagh Street Bridge built in 1885 spans the Avon River and provides access to Hagley Park from Park Terrace.
Earthquake repairs to the stonemasonry under the brick arch structure included removal of brick, injecting cementitious grout into cracks to fill voids, and re-installation of bricks.
The works were carried out in two stages with the main contractor’s temporary dam and dewatering systems installed for the works firstly one side then moved to the second side of the river as grout injection works were completed.
