The Akaroa Harbour basin has water shortages in some of its settlements during summer and some settlements discharge their treated wastewater into the sensitive and enclosed harbour waters.
The Christchurch City Council’s water strategy for Akaroa and the Takamatua area provided for a new wastewater treatment plant that included a water reservoir.
The new plant will be a compact modern facility, making use of recent improvements in wastewater treatment and attractively landscaped to limit visual impact. It will be quiet and the type of plant proposed does not cause odour. As part of the new wastewater treatment plant, the reservoir will provide water supply to the Takamatua community avoiding water shortages in the area during summer.
BBR Contech’s role involved supply of all post tensioning components, materials, equipment and personnel to complete the post tensioning and grouting of 250 m3 reservoir in using 9 rings of 3 or 4 x 15.2mm strands for horizontal tendons in wall panels.
