BBR CONNÆCT Magazine 2021 – Dedication meets Versatility

The latest edition of the BBR Connaect magazine has been published. A focus in this edition is the achievements of Network members despite the disruptions caused by Covid all over the world. As always, projects, achievements and developments in New Zealand feature prominently in the magazine. Enjoy reading about our projects and those from elsewhere in the world.

FRONT COVER IMAGE

Pacifica Tower, Auckland. This stunning 57-floor mixed use tower has become a new feature on the city skyline. It was realized using BBR post-tensioning for the elevated floors and the lateral load resisting system. p5

BRIDGES

KiwiRail Bridge. PT for new railway overpass bridge in Kaikoura region. p26-27

New Mangere Pedestrian & Cycle Bridge. Post-tensioning installed in bridge piers to connect the foundations to the arch bridge structure. p30-31

BUILDINGS

High-rise & multi-storey buildings – PT approach for slabs. Three projects featuring elevated post-tensioned (EPT) floors are now complete – and all are contributing to Auckland’s built environment. Pacifica Tower, AUT Student Accommodation and Voco Auckland City Centre Hotel. p36-39

Foodstuffs New Distribution Centre, Auckland. Record-breaking floor slab using BBR VT CONA CMF flat PT is complete and covers an area of 7.4 hectares. p42-44

Synlait Dry Goods Store 4, Dunsandel. The latest PT floor slabs for Synlait cover a total of 45,927m2 and include a dry goods store (29,956m2) and an external load out apron (15,971m2). p50-51

SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

70th Anniversary of BBR geotechnical technology. New era dam strengthening. A look at some key geotechnical projects including BBR Contech’s work on the 110-year-old Waitakere Dam in Auckland. p55

MRR

Wharf repairs, North Island. MRR techniques in maritime settings are featured on projects. Three recent wharf repair projects in the North Island are featured. Napier Port and Whakatane Town wharf and Ohope Wharf in Bay of Plenty. p64-67

Seatoun Tunnel, Wellington. Seismic strengthening & upgrade of a key transport connection. p68-69

Seismic strengthening of commercial buildings. Floor diaphragm strengthening with FRP over 6 levels for the OMV office, New Plymouth. Precast hollow-floor strengthening at Opus House, Manukau. p72-74

Waihue Bridge, Northland. External PT bridge strengthening with CONA CMW. p75

TECHNOLOGY

Bridge/slab stressing with two passive anchorages using CONA CMW anchorage. The BBR VT CONA CMW anchorage is a strong and economical solution for tank construction and other retrofitting projects. p84-85
