BBR Contech is New Zealand’s specialist in concrete post-tensioning solutions. We offer advisory, design and construction services for structural and civil engineering projects of any size and scale, including retrofitting and strengthening weakened and damaged structures.
In the past 50 years we’ve gained extensive experience in a huge range of post-tensioning projects. We’ve earned a reputation for our innovation and adaptability, and our ability to exceed client expectations in highly complex and technically challenging situations.
Projects in which we’ve used post-tensioning systems have included:
- cantilevered and incrementally launched bridges
- joint-free, low-maintenance concrete floors for storage and distribution warehouses, retail stores, manufacturing facilities and heavy-duty pavements and load-out aprons
- elevated concrete slabs, such as those needed for multi-storey buildings and car parks
- water reservoirs
- concrete transfer beams, in structures
- structures that have required external post-tensioning solutions.
As a member of the worldwide BBR Network we have access to a vast range of expert technical support and the latest news on post-tensioning designs, manufacturing processes, construction procedures and research and development. We’re also a certified Post-Tensioning Specialist Company and qualified to use the European Approved and CE marked BBT VT CONA CMX post-tensioning kits.
Kilmore Street Medical Centre, Christchurch
Thought to be the first building in New Zealand to use PRESSS technology for a steel structure, the Centre is being built using four pairs of structural steel frames, each vertically post-tensioned to the foundations with unbonded, high-strength steel bars. The frames are able to rock during earthquakes, with the post-tensioning providing a restoring force to help the building to return to centre.
New Office Development, Addington, Christchurch
A three-level commercial building overlooking Addington Raceway in Christchurch
has been constructed using PRESSS technology and post-tensioned concrete shear walls, and includes replaceable energy dissipators and self-centring mechanisms.
